Buying Shoes For Children

Buying shoes for children can be tough, but is important. Children’s feet are still developing and growing and shoes have to reflect this. It’s a good idea to measure a child’s foot before buying shoes. When they try on the shoe, check to see if they can wiggle their toes around. If they can’t, look for shoes that are either longer or wider. Yet even once you buy the shoes, it is recommended to keep measuring them every few months to see if they still fit. Children’s feet grow quickly and their shoes can be subject to more wear than those of adults. Consequently, replacing shoes every few months may not be uncommon.

What are Bunions?

Hallux valgus, better known as bunions, occurs when pressure on the big toe joint causes the big toe to lean towards the next toe. This can cause pain, tenderness, and redness near the big toe. Movement can worsen the pain, and overtime, the misalignment can become worse. Several conditions have been linked that cause bunions. These include flat feet, obesity, abnormal bone structures, and very flexible ligaments. Genetics also plays a role as well, with those of European descent being more likely to suffer from bunions. Shoes that aren’t wide enough and high heels can also contribute to bunions. While not all bunions require surgery, it is important to see a podiatrist first who can observe the severity of the deformation and provide treatment.

What is a Bunion?

A bunion is formed of swollen tissue or an enlargement of boney growth, usually located at the base joint of the toe that connects to the foot. The swelling occurs due to the bones in the big toe shifting inward, which impacts the other toes of the foot. This causes the area around the base of the big toe to become inflamed and painful.

Leonard Fournette Suffers Foot Injury

Running back Leonard Fournette of the Jacksonville Jaguars has recently been suffering from a foot-related injury. Although the specifics of the injury have not been revealed, the team has announced that they plan to be careful with him. Fournette is no stranger to injuries; he battled with them throughout his last season with the LSU Tigers. As a result, he had to miss five games. The Link Between HPV and Plantar Warts

People develop plantar warts by coming in contact with the Human papillomavirus (HPV). This virus tends to enter the body through small cuts, wounds, or weak areas on the bottom of the feet. Once the virus comes in contact with the skin, a wart begins to form. To avoid developing one of these warts, shower shoes if you are going to take a shower in a public area. You should also be cautious about being barefoot around public pools. Furthermore, covering up your cuts and wounds will help prevent the germ from coming in contact with your feet. By covering your wounds with antiseptic and bandages, you will significantly decrease your chances of developing plantar warts.

About Plantar Warts

Plantar warts are the result of HPV, or human papillomavirus, getting into open wounds on the feet. They are mostly found on the heels or balls of the feet.

While plantar warts are generally harmless, those experiencing excessive pain or those suffering from diabetes or a compromised immune system require immediate medical care. Plantar warts are easily diagnosed, usually through scraping off a bit of rough skin or by getting a biopsy.

Symptoms

  • Legions on the bottom of your feet, usually rough and grainy
  • Hard or thick callused spots
  • Wart seeds, which are small clotted blood vessels that look like little black spots
  • Pain, discomfort, or tenderness of your feet when walking or standing

Treatment

  • Freezing
  • Electric tool removal
  • Laser Treatment
  • Topical Creams (prescription only)
  • Over-the-counter medications

To help prevent developing plantar warts, avoid walking barefoot over abrasive surfaces that can cause cuts or wounds for HPV to get into. How Heels May Harm Your Feet

High heels are among the most popular types of footwear worn by women. Unfortunately, these shoes can cause a lot of harm for those who wear them.
